RipFest coaches are registered with USA Diving, background screened, completed SafeSport training, and have received concussion training through the CDC Heads Up course or the National Federation of High Schools Concussion in Sports.

Coaches are trained in RipFest's Camp Curriculum.

John Wingfield - CEO & Head Coach

John V. Wingfield has degrees in Management Information Systems BS, Health & Physical Education BS, as well as a Master’s in Sports Sciences MS, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Wingfield was a faculty member in the school of Physical Education, Director of Aquatics and Head Diving Coach at Ball State University from 1988 to 1998.

Wingfield served as Director and Coach of the National Training Center from 1998 to 2012. In 2013 he acquired Indiana Diving Academy/Ripfest and serves as the CEO and head coach. In 2026 John became the Diving High Performance Director for The City Of Fort Lauderdale.

Wingfield, a three time Olympic coach has been key in developing divers at all levels. In 2009 his team of athletes won 8 Junior National team titles. Internationally his divers have earned 10 Junior Pan Am Championships medals including 6 Gold medals. His junior divers have secured 2 junior world championship gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Wingfield’s long term athlete development program has produced 14 Olympic divers in his 40 years of coaching. These divers have amassed 8 Olympics medals (1 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze) over their careers.

Coaching Staff

  • Julian Krug

    2025 Coach Weeks 9 & 10

    Julian Krug comes to us from San Jose, California. He coached his daughter, Cassidy, to a NCAA Champion on one-meter and three-meter in 2007. Under his tutelage at the 2012 Olympics, Cassidy took 7th place in the three-meter springboard competition.

    Julian Krug took over as Pitt’s diving coach in 1979 after three year stints at both Navy and Southern Illinois. He became a six-time Big East Coach of the Year with the Panthers, then received the Phil Boggs Award — a prestigious recognition of lifetime achievement in diving — in 2013.

    Julian was named the ACC Coach of the Year Award in 2016. In his 37th season at Pitt, he coached sophomore Meme Sharp and junior Dominic Giordano to a pair of ACC titles in the three-meter dive, along with a national championship for Giordano in the same event.

    Julian also coached 18 individual Big East champions, 10 first-team All-American divers and another 10 honorable mention All-American performers. He was also a three-time All-American diver at the University of Wisconsin from 1966 to 1968.

    Julian has developed three Olympians over his years as a coach. We are very excited to have him at RipFest throughout the year.

  • Jim Hocking

    2025 Coach Week 8

    Air Force Academy Assistant Diving Coach

    Jim Hocking has been coaching a sport of diving for 50 years.

     He was an NCAA Division lll All- American Diver all at  Chico State University in Northern California. He began coaching at his Alma mater, volunteer coached at the University of Pittsburgh, and over a decade at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

     Jim founded and coached three USA/AAU Diving Club, most recently the Colorado Springers Diving Club. Jim is currently the Assistant Diving Coach at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

    Jim has coached multiple athletes to both high school and  NCAA All American status. He has been on the coaching staff of the USA Diving Senior National Team multiple times, and has had athletes compete the World Cup, World Championships, World University Games FINA Grand Prix, and the United States Olympic Diving Trials.

     When not coaching, Jim enjoys time with his family skiing, fishing, and playing music.

  • Corey Ervin

    2025 Coach Weeks 1, 3, 5, & 7

    Coach Corey Ervin is entering his nineth year as head diving coach at Mooresville High School. Coach Corey has worked for RipFest for approximately 12 years and has served as Site Directory for the past 10 years in charge of training regiments and coach assignments. Coach Corey graduated from Bremen High School in 1996 where he was the most valuable diver four years consecutive, 2-time state finalist, and current school record holder. Coach Corey continued his diving career at Ball State University under the tutelage of Coach John Wingfield (2008 USA Olympic Coach and USA Diving Coach of the year). At BSU Corey received such honors as, 2-time most valuable diver of the year, 2-time All-Conference (MAC) diver of the year, Outstanding Academic Award winner, and Senior National Qualifier status. After college in 2000, Coach Corey continued his training and started his coaching career with the Indianapolis Regional Training Center, alongside Coach Wingfield, in route to qualify for the Olympic Trials. Coach Corey worked on the National team with such athletes at Thomas Finchum (2008 Olympics-Silver) and David Boudia (2008 Olympics-Silver, 2012-Gold & bronze, 2016-Silver & Bronze). Coaching career continued through the Indianapolis Starz Diving program and Whiteland high school and middle school programs where he coached from 2002-2013. Coach Corey produced multiple Junior National qualifiers, school record holders, and over 45 state finalists, including state runner up (2007) and state Champion (2009). In 2014 Coach Corey served Goshen High School coaching 4 athletes to Regional finals and breaking new school records. Coach Corey has now been the head coach at Mooresville High School and Middle School since 2014. Mooresville has had all new high school dive records as well as middle school records broken; has produced a 2-time Sectional Champion, multiple regional qualifiers, and a state finalists. In the 2016-17 season the program had the first Mooresville diver to ever place at the state finals. Coach Corey has high hopes for continuing his coaching regime with RipFest and at Mooresville with a program that will continue to grow and prosper into the future.

  • Brendon Stevens

    2025 Coach Weeks 1-12

    Brendon is a full-time diving coach with 9 years of experience. Between coaching with John Wingfield and being Ball State University’s head diving coach, you will find him on deck 12 hours-a-day. He has a passion for helping athletes reach their dreams. He is the camp’s belt puller extraordinaire. Brendon brings joy and laughter to each practice.

  • Shawn Daly

    2025 Coach Weeks 1-12

    Shawn, a native to Michigan, has followed his dream of becoming a full-time diving coach here at RipFest. He coaches with John Wingfield full-time and also a local RipFest club. His enthusiasm for diving is contagious. Shawn brings purpose and passion to every practice. He is one of the camp’s coach leaders and runs our camp practices.

  • Kevin White

    2025 Coach Weeks 1-12

    Kevin has been coaching for over 9 years. Kevin is a current mentee of Olympic coach, John Wingfield. He continues to expand his education in diving through a recent trip to China where he was able to see first-hand training of budding Olympians. His passion for diving and building athletes is what drives him to want to help athletes achieve their goals. Kevin brings passion and a love of diving to every practice. His joy is evident as he encourages each athlete to reach their highest potential, beyond where even they know they can reach.

  • Emilie Hunter

    2025 Coach Weeks 1-12

    Emilie is a former college diver who is now in her forth year as a full-time dive coach. As a previous RipFest camper, Emilie is able to relate to the athletes on the camper experience. She is very excited to join the camp as a coach and continue her education in diving this summer.

  • Jakob Merkel

    2025 Coach Weeks TBA

    With thousands of hours of coaching experience, Jakob brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for diving. He is currently the head coach at Indiana University Pennsylvania. Having coached at both the club and collegiate levels, he has worked with divers of all abilities—from beginners taking their first steps on the board to elite-level athletes competing at the highest levels. His goal is to foster a positive and challenging training environment where athletes can develop both their skills and confidence. Jakob is excited to be part of the RipFest team and looks forward to helping divers reach their full potential.

  • Dylan Apicello

    2025 Coach Weeks 1-2 & 5-12

    Before diving in college, he was an assistant coach at Colorado State University - Pueblo, in addition to coaching at a local club in Colorado Springs. This will be Dylan’s third summer coaching for the RipFest Diving Camp. He is excited to grow as a coach, while helping campers to develop their skills and passion for the sport.

  • Christen Mayberry

    2025 Coach Weeks 1-5 & 7-12


    Christen is a current Division II diver and former Division I diver, entering her fifth year of collegiate athletics. With 7 years of diving experience, she has also coached both club diving and gymnastics. Previously, she served as a RipFest counselor for multiple winter camps and summer camp 2024. She is excited to return to camp this summer, bringing positivity and energy while helping athletes reach their potential and expanding her coaching skills.

Darek Farmer

Camp Manager

Darek Farmer comes to us from Kentucky. He earned his Bachelors degree from Murray State University in Business Management, Marketing,& Administration. He has a background in youth ministry and education. Darek loves to challenge and encourage young people to chase their dreams through hard work and utilization of their talents and abilities.  As a parent of a former camper and current Full-time team member, he has a personal connection to RipFest and a unique perspective on RipFest, which has him fully vested!

Kate Bramlett

Director of Operations

Kate earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University and holds a master’s degree in Emerging Media Design and Development from Ball State University. During her undergrad years (2010-2014), she dove for IU under the tutelage of Jeff Huber, John Wingfield, and Drew Johansen. There she earned the honors of NCAA Academic All-American, NCAA All-American, three-time Academic All-Big Ten, and Second Team Big Ten. Kate earned a spot to compete in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Trials and also in the 2013 and 2014 USA Diving FINA World Championships-World Cup Trials. Prior to RipFest, Kate worked for Fellowship of Christian Athletes as the Program Director and Camp Director for FCA camps in Indiana. Kate’s expertise is in research-informed design and development, operations management, camp and youth development, and design thinking. Kate and her husband, Josh Bramlett, have a daughter and seven nieces that keep them busy and constantly on their toes! Kate loves to encourage campers step out of their comfort zone and set impossible goals; you never know what you can accomplish if you don’t try!
